Landed cost calculator

Estimate the total cost of importing a robot or component: item price, freight and insurance form the customs value, then duty and import VAT/tax apply on top. Enter the rates you found for your country and commodity code — this tool computes, it does not look them up for you.

Customs value (CIF) — USD
Duty amount — USD
Import VAT/tax amount — USD
Total landed cost — USD

Methodology

Item price, freight and insurance are summed into a customs value (CIF). Duty is applied to that customs value; VAT/import tax is then applied to the customs value plus duty — the convention used by the UK and the EU. Some jurisdictions tax the customs value alone instead; check which convention your country follows before comparing totals.

  • Customs value (CIF) = item price + freight + insurance.
  • Duty amount = customs value x duty rate you enter.
  • Import VAT/tax = (customs value + duty amount) x the rate you enter — not the customs value alone.
  • Total landed cost = customs value + duty amount + import VAT/tax.

Worked example

  • UK — industrial robots (commodity code 8479.50.00.00) — Third country duty 0.00% · Import VAT standard rate 20.00% (verified 2026-08-04)

This calculator applies the duty and VAT/tax rates you enter — it does not embed or guess a rate for any country or commodity code, because those vary by country, by product classification, and by trade agreement. Look up your own rate from your country's customs authority before using this tool. It computes a mathematical estimate, never customs or tax advice, and never a guarantee of what you will actually be charged.
