RoHS
RoHS is the EU directive restricting hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, adopted to cut the risks that such equipment poses to health and the environment and to make it easier to recycle.

The current directive entered into force on 21 July 2011 and restricts ten substances: lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, two brominated flame retardants and four phthalate plasticisers. Every product with an electrical or electronic component must comply unless specifically excluded, which makes the restriction a condition of market access for manufacturers and importers alike rather than a product-category rule. Exemptions and the list of restricted substances live in annexes that delegated directives amend over time.
